In 2016 Czech Republic passed a new law that required all entrepreneurs to report each sale directly to the financial authority as a signed XML message. The goal of this app was not only to help follow state defined regulations but also lend small business owners a hand.
In TvojePokladna I was responsible for front-end development of the website, app design, UX, website design and also design of their marketing materials.
Our team had a few months to develop the app and launch the website before the law came into effect. It was obvious that most of the sales were going to happen 30 days before the state defined deadline for business owners.
The requirement for the app was that it should look like a traditional calculator - easy and fast to use. That is why first I designed 3 screens that show how simple it is to make a sale. Right after finishing that I started designing and developing the website so we could start making sales as soon as possible. This way we were able to sell the app even before it was out which had given the team extra motivation to finish it in time.
As I have mentioned before the app had to be extremely simple with big buttons so it can be used even by older people or people with the lack of digital skills. The main target device was a 7-inch tablet that the company sold as a part of the bundle. However, customers were able to use their own Android devices. That is why we’ve decided to make the menu very colorful so that users could connect the color and icon with the action they want to make.
One of the requirements was also the speed of a single sale recording. Over the time I’ve tested 5 different layouts in order to make this process as fast as possible. All these tests were done on our test group representing similar demographics as our potential customers. By making the animations prompt, adding macros and adjusting the layout so that all confirm buttons can be pressed on the same part of the screen we’ve managed to create an app that our power users can use to record a sale in less than 5 seconds.
The main theme behind the marketing campaign of TvojePokladna was “do not be scared of new regulations”. This was achieved with vivid store images and marketing campaign featuring cute monsters which helped the project to stand out from the crowded competition
